Berkowitz Pollack Brant’s SALT Expert Named FICPA’s 2020 Women to Watch

MIAMI, July 20, 2020 – Berkowitz Pollack Brant Advisors + CPAs today announced Associate Director Karen Lake, CPA, was named the Florida Institute of CPAs (FICPAs) 2020 Women to Watch in the Experienced Leader category. The award, established by the American Institute of CPAs, honors “the outstanding women who shape the accounting profession and demonstrate to emerging female leaders that success is not out of reach.”

Lake has a long history of professional leadership, having served as organizer and chair of various FICPA conferences and current board member of both the FICPA and Florida TaxWatch, for which she chairs the Tax Advisory Council. Over the past 20 years, she has honed her expertise as a state and local tax (SALT) specialist, helping businesses across the globe navigate a complex landscape of federal and state tax laws, including R&D tax credits and incentives, excise taxes, fuel tax, income and franchise tax, property tax, and sales and use tax.

Prior to joining Berkowitz Pollack Brant, Lake held positions as a senior advisor with a Big-4 public accounting firm, a member of corporate tax department and a state auditor. She holds a Certified in Florida Sales and Use Tax (CFST) designation and a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla.
